Henry Kent McCay
Henry Kent McCay (January 8, 1820 – July 30, 1886) was a United States federal judge.
Born in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, McCay received an A.B. from Princeton University in 1839 and read law in 1842. He was in private practice in Americus, Georgia from 1843 to 1861. He was in the Confederate Army from 1861 to 1865, returning to private practice in Americus, Georgia from 1865 to 1868. He was a justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia from 1868 to 1875, again returning to private practice in Atlanta, Georgia from 1875 to 1882.
On August 3, 1882, McCay was nominated by President Chester A. Arthur to a new seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia created by 22 Stat. 47. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 4, 1882, and received his commission the same day, serving thereafter until his death, in Atlanta.
